Usenet Newsgroups

The Newsgroups List

To get to the Usenet Newsgroups list, go to the News menu and select Show All Newsgroups. A window entitled 'Usenet Newsgroups' will appear. This will show a list of available newsgroups that you can subscribe to. To search the list for a particular newsgroup, type its name into the Find text box.

To get a list of all the new news groups created since the previous list, just click on the New button. After the next blink, if you go to the New tab on the 'Usenet Newsgroups' it will have list of them all, if you wish to download the full list again, just click on the Update button.

You can also select to reject certain Newsgroups from the server you are connecting to. To do this just click on the Filter button, select the criteria for filtering and enter the groups you wish to filter in our out.

If you connect to more than one News Server, you can select the required server from a list of servers which you have set-up from the drop down list at the top of the screen.

Subscribing to a Newsgroup

To choose a newsgroup from the list of newsgroups, open the list by going to the News menu and selecting Show All Newsgroups.

Select the newsgroup that you'd like to subscribe to by clicking on the name of the newsgroup. Now click the Subscribe button at the top of the list. The Subscribe dialogue will open with the newsgroup that you selected already entered. Click OK to subscribe.

By default, the last 50 headers from the selected newsgroup will be downloaded during the next blink. You can, however, choose to download all headers or the headers and articles. You should bear in mind, however, that if you do choose to retrieve all of the articles, you may have to download several megabytes of data.

If you know of a particular newsgroup that you'd like to subscribe to, go to the News menu and select Subscribe. Enter the name of the newsgroup into the Subscribe to newsgroup text box. Click the OK button.
