Ameol allows you to set 'rules' that are applied to incoming messages. When Ameol detects a message that matches the rules that you have set, it can perform various tasks such as marking, deleting or moving the message. Rules can be applied to any folder that appears in the In Basket. When Ameol has finished blinking, it places each of the messages that have been retrieved into a folder. If you have set a rule for a folder, it is at this point (as the messages are placed in the folders) that the rule will be applied. You can set a rule to look for a message from a particular person or a word in the title or body of a message. To create a new rule, go to the Settings menu and select the Rules command. Now, from the list of folders displayed, select the folder to which you'd like the rule applied. Click the New button to start defining your new rule. If you want to look for messages from a particular person, enter their name in the From text box. If you want to look for messages to a recipient, put their name in the To text box. You can also check for recipients in the CC field of message by choosing the Inspect CC field option. Names can be entered in these text boxes in several ways. You can enter the user name of a person (the name before the @ symbol in an email address) or you can enter the full email address. For example, you could enter 'Name' or 'name@cix.co.uk'. It doesn't matter if the name you enter is in capitals or lower case. If you used just Name you would match messages where the sender of the message was name@cix.co.uk., name@cix.compulink.co.uk or name@isp.com. If you put name@cix.co.uk in the text box you would only match name@cix.co.uk. Either text box entry would not match namesurname@cix.co.uk or dr_name@isp.com. To find a word in the subject or body of a message, enter the word in the Subject and/or Message body fields. It is important to note that a rule will act in an 'and' fashion. That is to say that if you enter the name of an author and a word to be found in the message, the rule will only be applied to messages that match both criteria that you have specified. In other words the message must come from the specified author and contain the specified word. This applies to the From, To, Subject and Message body text boxes. When you have established the criteria that you'd like to apply to messages entering the chosen folder, you can now choose what you like done with any message that matches. You can mark the message for priority attention, to be ignored or as having already been read. You can also delete the message or move it to another specified folder by choosing a folder from the Move to list. The Retrieve full article option will only apply to Usenet newsgroup messages. If you select this option the message will automatically be tagged so that the full article will be retrieved the next time Ameol blinks. When you have finished setting up your rule, click the OK button. Your rule will be applied to any new messages coming into the selected folder; it will not be applied to the messages already in the folder.
