Customising Ameol
Customising the keyboard, screen colours and fonts

< Previous  |  Next >

Ameol allows you to customise the 'look and feel' of the program to suit your personal needs and tastes.

You can adjust the existing keyboard shortcuts and add new ones of your own. This is particularly useful if you find yourself using a particular command frequently that does not have a keyboard shortcut associated with it.

To change the keyboard settings, go to the Settings menu and select Customise. Select the Keyboard tab, if it is not already selected. You will see a list of all of the commands available in Ameol with their keyboard shortcuts, if any. If you click on a command, a description of that command will appear at the bottom of the dialogue box.

To change or add a keyboard shortcut, select a command from the list and then click in the field marked Press New Shortcut Key. When the cursor is in this field, press the key that you would like to assign to that command. You can also specify combinations using the Ctrl, Shift and Alt keys together with another key.

If the key or keys that you have chosen are currently assigned to another command, you will see the command appear under the Currently Assigned To: label. If they are not currently assigned, you will see the message 'unassigned'. This means that you can associate that command with those keys. To create the association, click Assign. You will see your key or keys listed next to the command in the list.

You can also remove keyboard shortcuts. To do this, select the command with the shortcut you wish to remove and click the Remove button. If you want to reset the keyboard shortcuts to their default settings click the Reset All button.

To change Ameol's colour scheme, select the Colours tab. If you select an item in the list, you will see the colour currently associated with it, highlighted in the colour palette below and shown in the Selected Colour box.

To change the colour of an item, select it from the list. Now select the colour that you would like from the palette. If the particular colour that you are looking for is not displayed in the palette, click the Custom button to select your own colour.

When you have selected the colour, click the Apply button. If the item that you changed is currently visible on the desktop, you will see your change while the Customise dialogue is still open. The Reset button will return the selected item to its default settings. The Reset All button will return all of the assigned colours to their default settings.

To set the fonts, select the Fonts tab. Select a window, such as the In Basket, from the list displayed in the Apply font to: list. Next, select the Font, Font style and Size you'd like used in that window. A sample of the font will appear in the Sample box.

You can restrict the list of available fonts to fixed pitch by checking the Fixed Pitch Only box. A fixed pitch font is one where all the characters are the same width.

If the window that you have just adjusted is currently visible, clicking the Apply button will allow you to see the effect of your changes without closing the 'Customise' dialogue. If the window is not currently displayed, you will see your changes next time you open that window.

When you have finished editing the font settings for one window, you can either click Apply and then move on to edit another window, or click OK to save your changes.

The Reset button will return the current font setting to its default. The Reset All button will reset all font settings to their default values.

When you have finished editing the colours, assigning keyboard shortcuts and setting the fonts, click OK for your changes to take effect.
