Read

When you mark a message as having been read, the letter box symbol disappears and the number of unread messages displayed in the In Basket decreases.

Read Lock

If you mark a message read locked, every time you go through your messages using the ENTER key or press Ctrl+N you will see this message. A read locked message is shown by the padlock symbol Bookmark If you bookmark a message, its colour will change from black to blue. You can jump straight to the next bookmarked message by pressing the F9 key, and pressing SHIFT+F9 will take you to the previous bookmarked message.

Keep

Keeping a message means that if you have set Ameol to delete any messages older than a certain length of time (see the section "Managing the Message Database" later in this section), this message will be kept regardless of how old it is. A kept message is denoted by a key symbol. Marked messages are also kept.

Delete

By default Ameol is set to remove only those messages that have been marked for deletion. A message marked with this command will be removed when the Ameol database is purged (see the section "Managing the Message Database" later in this section). A message marked for deletion has a dustbin symbol next to it.

Withdraw

Withdrawing articles and messages is covered in the Getting Started section. A withdrawn message has a ‘W’ symbol next to it.

Watch

This command applies only to newsgroup articles. If you place a watch on a particular newsgroup article, the full articles for any follow-up articles to the original will automatically be retrieved without the need for tagging the individual responses.

Ignore

If you choose to ignore a message, subsequent responses to that message will still be downloaded by Ameol, but they won’t be marked as unread. This is useful when you’re not interested in reading the responses to a particular message but you are interested in the topic in which it has been posted. Ignored messages change from black to grey.

Priority

Unread messages that have been marked priority can be located by pressing F5. A priority message is shown in red rather than black. Comments to priority messages receive priority status as well. By default, all you own and subsequent messages are automatically marked as priority.

Tag

This only applies to newsgroup articles. Tagging articles is covered in the Getting Started chapter, but briefly it allows you to specify which full articles you would like to download. A tagged article is denoted by the tag symbol.
